Follicular Unit Transplantation
According to Wikipedia, Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is a hair restoration technique, also known as the strip procedure, in which the hair of a patient is transplanted in naturally occurring groups of 1 to 4 hairs, known as follicles. Follicular units also contain sebaceous (oil) glands, nerves, small muscles and sometimes fine hairs of vellus. In follicular unit transplantation, these small units enable the surgeon to transplant thousands of grafts safely in one session, maximizing the cosmetic impact of the procedure.
FUT is considered an advance over older hair transplant procedures that use larger grafts and often create a sluggish, unnatural appearance. The results of a properly performed follicular unit transplant mimic the way hair grows in nature and is undetectable as a hair transplant.
